Situated in the southeastern part of the Tokyo Metropolis, Ota City is surrounded by several other cities; specifically, it faces the Tokyo Bay in the east, Shinagawa and Meguro Cities in the north, and Setagaya City in the northwest. Separated by the Tama River, it also neighbors Kawasaki City of Kanagawa Prefecture in the west and the south. With a total area of 600,000 square kilometers, Ota City has a population of roughly 680,000.　Ota City provides very convenient access to people from overseas. In fact, it takes only 30 minutes from the center of the Tokyo Metropolis and 90 minutes from Narita Airport (by Airport Limousine bus). What’s more, Ota City has Haneda Airport, which accepts flights of domestic airlines and chartered fights from neighboring Asian countries.

The number of factories for those companies engaged in machining and metal working account for more than 80% of the total number of factories in Ota City. A combination of their high precision in technology and the rapidness in communication has thus contributed to the prototyping and R&D efforts among leading companies. Specific efforts include pursuing state-of-the-art technologies, developing original products, and being active deploying themselves overseas.
