Industrial sectors of Ota CityConvenient traffic accessSituated in the southeastern part of the Tokyo Metropolis, Ota City is surrounded by several other cities; specifically, it faces the Tokyo Bay in the east, Shinagawa and Meguro Cities in the north, and Setagaya City in the northwest. Separated by the Tama River, it also neighbors Kawasaki City of Kanagawa Prefecture in the west and the south. With a total area of 600,000 square kilometers, Ota City has a population of roughly 680,000. Ota City provides very convenient access to people from overseas. In fact, it takes only 30 minutes from the center of the Tokyo Metropolis and 90 minutes from Narita Airport (by Airport Limousine bus). What’s more, Ota City has Haneda Airport, which accepts flights of domestic airlines and chartered fights from neighboring Asian countries.
Industrial sectors of Ota CityOta City is a place crowded with manufacturing companies engaged in machining and metal working. Actually, some 82% of them are small companies whose workforce is less than 10 employees. The number of factories for those companies engaged in machining and metal working account for more than 80% of the total number of factories in Ota City. For many years, those companies engaged in machining and metal working have supported the backbone of the entire Japanese industry by making effective use of a variety of technologies accumulated and their intra-company networks. A combination of their high precision in technology and the rapidness in communication has thus contributed to the prototyping and R&D efforts among leading companies. By making the most of their own technological and development strengths, the companies in Ota City are also about to take off into a new era. Specific efforts include pursuing state-of-the-art technologies, developing original products, and being active deploying themselves overseas. In particular, many of the local companies are active advancing into other Asian countries and they are going ahead in an attempt to look for new business opportunities.
